Hey everyone.
I wish I could post with better news but life happens.
There will be no more DSD activities coming from me, I will not be doing my $1 and $2 deals anymore this weekend.
I regret to say that while we were in Wichita, we got a dozen phone calls around 1AM from a ton of people.
Our home has burned down in a fire. Every member of our family is okay, myself, my husband and our son. We were out of town at the time. Our two cats ran out of the house, unfortunately our family dog could not make it out, and likely would not have left even if he had been able to make it out, because he was very protective of us.
The preliminary cause is apparently our furnace – our house was very old and in very bad shape, and it’s likely that the furnace malfunctioned and caught on fire, and it spread through the house very quickly. It took about 30 minutes from the time it lit to the time the house burned down.
A little PSA: Check your furnaces. If they’re old, don’t wait until something’s wrong to get them fixed.
We are very lucky to be alive – if I had still been attending school we would not have been able to leave until Friday afternoon and we all would have still been in the house. The fire chief said that the chances were great that if we had been inside, none of us would have made it out. My neighbor (who happens to be my best friend) discovered it due to a good Samaritan who pounded on her door at 1AM in the morning. I need to thank him, because if he hadn’t, the fire would probably have spread and her and her son may not have made it out with their lives.
I will keep everyone updated as I can, but as you can understand, I’ve got my hands full. We are staying out of town as planned because we are staying with my parents temporarily when we go back to town and they need time to get us a place set up.
I know it’s stupid to feel the need to apologize – but my apologies for having to cancel my DSD activities.
The charity kit is still going, but with everything going on plans may change for which days donations can be made. We’ll need all the money we can get right now. However, the money that goes to the charity kit WILL STAY in my Paypal account until I can get it donated to the charity.
Thank you for understanding, and I will keep you all as updated as I possibly can.
